I've been an AMA charter member for over 45 years (I started late).
You wouldn't believe the crap that they have fought over for us. I believe if it wasn't for the AMA and ABATE we wouldn't be riding motorcycles today. Or at best, we would be so over regulated it wouldn't be any fun to ride.
They have reversed hundreds of motorcycle bans all across this country. In Chicago they stopped a motorcycle ban on Lake Shore Drive and a few other streets. In St Louis they overturned a motorcycle ban on a major road that cut through a state park.
Now they are fighting real hard to limit E15 gas which is slowly encroaching on all gas stations. = very bad for motorcycles.
Also fighting against foreign motorcycle requirements and regulations from coming over here.
Fighting for regulations on self driving cars in regards to motorcycles.
Trying to get harsher penalties for injuring/killing motorcyclists.
They fought insurance companies over unfair premiums costs and not insuring certain makes of bikes.
Back in the late 70's sport bikes were almost legislated out of existence. AMA stopped that in the 11th hour.
Don't think politicians and the general public like you. Even when they stand on the side of the street and cheer you as you go by in parades. If they could, I bet, 80% to 90% of them would outlaw motorcycles in a minute. I really do. And we don't help our own cause.
Just think of the power we would have if all motorcyclists joined the AMA = we'd be invincible.
If you don't fight for what you have, don't bitch about it when all of a sudden it's gone.
Just my 2 cents
PLus you get towing and great discounts on a lot of motorcycle stuff. I save as much money off motel rooms that would easily pay for the dues each year.

Yeah I Belong to the NRA( I'm a USMC Veteran ) and I carry daily,but the AMA is and does NOTHING for a rider on the street- and I LOVE THEM CALLING ME/ US 1%ERS.....I'M PROUD OF THAT TAG,AND THE ama is a bullshit nothing left wing political orginization .
