I've thought about it off and on over the years. I too am a gun enthusiast, and have been an NRA life member for something like 20 years. My general sense of things is that my right to self defense is under more energetic and persistent attack than is anything motorcycle related, so AMA membership has never seemed as much a priority. Maybe that's foolish complacency on my part?

I originally joined the AMA because they had a good magazine. They had an excellent government affairs unit, but I dindo think it's as good since Imre Sauter left .Originally Posted by RandyL
I have a Ama membership. I use autorenew. with auto renew you get free towing on all your vehicles besides your bike.
I keep my membership for the towing and governmental affairs .They lobby on issues like ethanie, roadblocks, off road access.

Pretty much my thoughts as well 0maha. The towing thing they offer sounds interesting. I am leaning towards joining and checking them out..Originally Posted by 0maha

I'm a member for the towing, it's always nice to have more than one towing option. They lobby for motorcyclists so that's a good reason to be a member too.

+1 for me on AMA. I too, am an NRA Lifer and just passed 20-year membership with AMA. The towing pgk is great! Especially if you tow stuff with a trailer. (Like dirt bikes & sleds) Plus they advocate for us like the NRA does on firearm ownership.

I've been a member of the AMA for many years, long before purchasing my first Harley in 2008. I think they do a lot of good for all motorcyclists, lobbying for our rights to ride....I don't use the auto renew cuz I am a member with AAA RV plus that includes mc towing.
FWIW, I'm a pro rights gun owner and have a TX CHL but I quit the NRA several years ago cuz they would constantly ask for more and more money sometimes every week by mail and phone calls and it became too much of a hassle. I didn't mind an occasional extra donation but the every week/month begging for more money had to stop.
With the AMA, I pay my annual fee for membership and I've never been hassled for extra money during the year.

I joined the AMA in the early 70s.
My current take is that the AMA let the Bicycle Coalition become more popular (and powerful) than itself.
I think this is sad, as to me, society evolved from bicycles to motorcycles in the 1899s and we are repeating a circle we should have already have knowledge about.
AMA should see this power shift and be reacting yet the AMA appears not to be reacting.
For example, free & more secure parking, free road tolls, free registration, dedicated lanes....all items given to bicycles which should extend to motored cycles. Electric bicycles would be motored cycles; but anyone else see the legislation loopholes being written for E-bikes? Wind, rain, bumpy roads, groceries, flowing with traffic speed, passengers are not handled well by human pedal power. Again been there done that. Wishing the AMA would grow a pair so-to-say and get us some of these above mention "rights".
Yes, AMA never asks for more money or robot calls you, has good magazine, towing and other perks one can find of value.
