Default Question about clutch adjustment

With your engine turned off and in gear, are you able to move your bike with the clutch pulled in? How about with the engine running?

As part of my spring tuneup, I adjusted the cable clutch cable as per the HD service manual. It now shifts better, smoother and with less noise. However, if the bike is turned off, I am unable to move the bike if it is in gear and the clutch pulled in, almost as if there is still friction between the plates. It is not a problem with the engine running, maybe because the fluid sloshing in there gives it enough slippage to allow it to move. It also doesn't pull when I am at a stop in gear with the clutch pulled in.

I've gone over my procedure twice and it seems to be up to the manual's specs. I am thinking of tightening the cable just a bit to see if it makes a difference but I would hate to loose how smooth it shifts now. On most Harleys you can hear the "thunk" noise from a few hundred feet away whenever you change gear. Mine is quiet now.

BTW, I am using the Pepto Bismol pink fluid that smells like vomit in the transmission. I forgot the name of it, but you know which one it is.

Mine runs the same way yours does. If it sits overnight, I need to do some work to get it to move with just the clutch pulled in. I attribute it to the plates being stuck together with what amounts to pretty good suction. Think about it, the spring is compressing the plates together, and the fluid is pressed out. Without some outside influence (strong rocking, or engine running, effectively separating the plates) its gonna stick together. this is pretty normal for a wet clutch. They all do it to some extent (even my previous metrics did this)

Thanks Scott, I hadn't thought of it that way. It does make sense. I'll just leave things be as is then.
