Sounds genuine - he says he'll wait until you clear the cheque... Once the cheque clears you have your money, no worries about it being taken away again as PayPal might do (if he filed a complaint, real or faked).

I keep re-reading it trying to find where a scam could happen... One might be the cargo people turning up early (before the cheque clears) and wanting to take it... (Hint, you say "no")
That's the trick - you nut it all out thinking "Where will I be scammed?"

Sounds a little "Google translate" to me... I'd ask that since it's "his" cargo shipping firm, then "his" shippers can show up with cash money.

Actually I'm going to stop by the Sheriff's Department in the morning and talk with them about using there address. I know you can google just about anything - my E-Mail and phone# were in the add.
I just don't feel like laying it out, makes it too easy to turn around and use or sell it.
Yes I'm all about cash and face to face.

Right on.

My local PD has an area under constant surveillance that is actually designated for online purchases. Yours may too.

Best of luck with the sale.

Got the check and it was made out for the wrong amount. Actually $500 more than the agreed upon price. I called the buyer and he said he made a mistake, just give his son the $500 in cash when he picked up the bike. He really wanted to get the deal done during the weekend. Little alarms went off in my head. So I told the buyer I was going to be out of town over the weekend, and he could pick up the bike & the money at the end of the following week or the next weekend. Never heard from the buyer again.
Long story short, the certified check was a fake. Looked real. Bank deposited the amount in my checking account. About 4 days later they notified me the check was a fake. The bank & account the certified check was drawn on did not exist. It was just a good fake print job, including the routing numbers.
If things had gone according to the buyer's plan, he would have got a Harley for free, plus $500 in cash.
Beware, even with the so-called certified checks. They still have to clear, which is something I misunderstood. I thought being certified meant the funds were there, being held for this check, check was automatically good and a done deal. Not so.
This is a great point and was going to make the same one. I sold a nice car on Craigslist The buyer was coming up to give me a certified check. I did a little research and found that those checks are faked sometimes. Well when the buyer arrived and she looked legit and trust worthy I told her the only way I will do this is if we go to the bank the check was drawn on and I got cash for it. We did, it was a bit of a hassle but no way I was gonna get screwed out of +20,000...

Yeah, I really love my home town! I'm in a "small" suburb of St. Louis (90,000 people).

We have similar in Prince William County, VA. Parking spaces at the police station strictly for online transactions which are under video surveillance 24/7.

It's good that they are acknowledging the problems of buying/selling online and are taking steps to help. Their work does them credit and earns them respect.
