I just went to court today for a speeding ticket.I met with the prosecuter and I saw that on the back of the ticket the officer already wrote that he got me at 77 in a 55 and lowered it to 65. The prosecuter then lowered it to 60 in 55 for me. The fine was a $20 fine with $82 of court fees and the ticket stays off my insurance. Point of the story is that it pays to go to court, I only saved $20 on the ticket but it stays off the insurance.

Oh yeah, and I do find I go quite a bit faster on the bike. I tend to run around 65-70.

It's easy to speed on any bike but the Harley doesn't invite speeding like some of the more refined sport touring bikes. If you think you can get in trouble on a Harley you should spend some time riding a BMW 1150 RT or a Honda ST 1300. Those bikes are so incredibly smooth that it's difficult not to get stopped for speeding. That's one of the things I enjoyed about buying my 1200 c. It invites a much more laid back ride.

Sorry to hear about your ticket... It happens - not the end of the world in your case.

Personally I've gotten to the habit of pretty much doing the speed limit or maybe 5 over anymore. Maybe it's old age (I'm 43), but anymore I just enjoy cruuuuuiiiiising and am just rarely in a hurry. On the open freeway I set the cruise for maybe 3-5 over and just hum along with a smile on my face. Cops never look twice at me...

If I did the speed limit when commuting to work I would probly get ran over. The speed limit on the freeway here is 65.The majority of the the cagers are doing anywhere from 70-85 mph if the traffic is not stopped.

I too hold to the 5 mph over the limit, in the country anyway, and here in AZ, I'm the slowest thing on the road other than bicycles. 20 mph over the limit seems to be the norm around here on the two lane black top (except in construction zones). I've even had cops go by me at 75 mph in a 55 mph zone without their lights on.

I do not usually feel safe driving within the speed limit on a road with any traffic. A lonely country road is another story. I have never been stopped on a Harley. Have had an oncoming LEO flash his lights at me to let me know I was speeding but have not been stopped.

I haven't been cited for speeding on my bike or even in a cage, but I have been pulled over exactly three times in my life. Twice in the cage and once on the bike. I usually run the speed limit or at most 5-10 over and the only times I've been pulled over it was because I was trying to keep up with someone else.

Incidentally, I have no tickets whatsoever on my record. All the way back to when I got my license. I think that helped, along with a pleasant positive attitude the times I did get pulled over.

If i don't pay attention to the speed on the bikes i'm always way over on the interstate. Two days after i got the Ultra i had the wife chase me in the car because i was certain thespeedo was WAY off. I was constantly leveling off at 85 to 90+ not even running hard. Wierd part was the only reason i noticedhow fast i was going and kept getting upto was that i was trying to keep it downwith the new engine. Wife chased me and said the speedo was correct. Yes i was passing folks but i usually run 80 anyway so that's not that unusual. In mid MO on the interstate folks either go 65 or 80+. Not may go 70.

Drift???

I am fully aware of what speed I am going at all times and I have deliberately chosen to run at that speed.

Anywhere from 5 to 30 over depending on the road and the traffic.
