I rode 13 miles to work in the cold for the time this morning. It's about a 30 minute ride. It was 39 degrees at 7:15am. Ten degrees-ish colder on the bike. The only reason I rode is because it's going to be 72 F today without a cloud in the sky.
I had on thermal underwear, jeans, a hoodie, my leather jacket, insulated boots, winter riding gloves, scarf and my half helmet. It was ok until about 2/3 of the way to the office. My hands were cold as hell, and my legs were freezing. The rest of me was totally fine. I think I'll invest in a pair of windbreaker overpants, and heated grips. I should be good then. I'm in NC, so I'll probably ride all winter unless we actually get a round or two of snow. Then I'll take the truck.
55-60 degrees...lower than that, and I'll start dressing for it. Best part is, at that temperature, there's no bugs.
Might seem cold to some, but Scandinavian blood is thicker.
