to set the bike world on its ear (again), there is one trick left in the bag.
Why not have Porsche design the first, production, performance diesel motorbike mill.
Since my other vehicles are all krauts, and since they invented the klacker, why not.
Consider it the Peterbilt, or 'Binder' of bikes.

Simple answer is it would be a great deal of money spent for little return with surely a heavy net loss.
There is also currently a german cruiser hitting the market with a diesel engine.
It has a whopping pricetag and I doubt will become much of a commercial success.

Not sure the world was ready for the motorized bicycle, either, in 1903.
Diesel, biodiesel, alcohol, fuel cell, hydrogen, EV, turbine, etc. Considering my kids will live to see the end of petroleum as we know it, someone is going to make the leap in a big way.
Oh, I know. A Nuke. That would be a good alternative. And, it would render the helmet-law, no-helmet-law argument moot.
What the heck. They already have Porsche set up in the system. Why not marginalize the expense for a nex-gen plant.
But, back to the Nuke.
I'll take first dibs on a personalized plate:

I do believe Harley is making a motorcycle for the Armed Forces - it runs on diesel or aviation fuel.
I know the military wants to discontinue gasoline vehicles. They don't want to haul around multiple types of fuel.
I gotta look for that article....

Deisel engines generally do not produce the same horse power as gas engines. They do increase torque and mileage however. But over all there would be no real benefit outside of the miltary.

No thanks..I wouldn't want a diesel engine in my Harley and aside from the smell and limited gas pump acess - how many more miles would you really gain..heck - I'm happy getting about 40+ miles to the gallon now.

The diesels are coming on strong in '08. Cage makers will be bringing out a wave of them. They are all scrambling to build them or buy them from someone who does. You just might be on to something with a diesel Harley.
