Default Vance Hines softail installation

Bike is a '98 Fatboy, EVO motor

I downloaded some installation instructions for various Vance Hines pipes, trying to find mine. All the PDF's were of pipes that are two piece, not single. Mine seems to be welded at one point, shown in the picture. I'm having difficulty trying to get the pipe to fit easily into the heads.

I have V&H Big Shots on my LR, they look like 2 pipes but like yours, are 1 piece. I had to take them off to replace my gaskets, and it is tricky to get off & on. To install, they need to go in evenly. If one pipe is in further to the head than the other, it binds up. Of course, I'm doing all this while balancing the lower pipes against my legs.

Hope this helps.

Tried installing again today, I couldn't get the pipe heads to fit equally into the heads, could be because I'm working on the floor without a lift but I decided I'm going to take the bike into a shop and shell out $150 for the indy-quoted install. Don't want to mar the head bolts.

Bummer. The only thing else I can think of is to double check the part number for your bike.

when I bought the bike, these Vance Hines were on it. It fits, I’ve just never done work as involved as an exhaust swap 😅 operator error

I had those on my FX, they're tight but not impossible. Put the first one in place up front, then you're going to have to pull backwards while pushing in on the rear one. It will spread enough to get it in place, then just even em up and tighten em up. It's not terribly difficult, just probably worried about hurting the pipes pulling on them like that. Trust me, you won't. They're tough.
