hi guys, so I started to put new apes on my bike. I ordered apes, cables, dot4 brake fluid, transmission cover gasket, transmission fluid (as well as oil, since I planed to change the oil at the same time) You are looking at new bars (black) compared to old bars (chrome) I pulled all these wires out, meticulously logged every step, every colour of wire. I had to take plugs apart, cut wires, pull them back through, which required lube, lots of pulling, one inch at time because big parts would not get through small holes, finally get the wires through, then today I realise the old bars were notched so the the throttle base would stay in one place, whereas these ones are not. which means taking everything apart again, means cutting or unsoldering all the connections I made, cutting off the heat shrink, which means more heat shrink, pulling the wires out, sending the bards back getting the right ones OR some how machining the ends of these bars to fit the fly by wire throttle. Now Im at a stand still the project is stopped.
Is there another fly by wire controller that does not require the notches? maybe that's easier at this point? What would you do? thanks for your help.
Not another fly by wire that doesnt use notches. They need the notches. Could always protect the wires and then cut the notches with a dremel. When I first bought my 08 in Aug of 07, aftermarket bars didnt have the notches yet, I cut my own on my KW bars.
Unfortunately youre probably better off sending them back to get the bars that you ordered (assuming you did order the correct ones). Either way, Im sure it wont be a problem exchanging them.
It sucks, but I dont really see an easy way out at this point.
dawg -I checked that, it fits but how could I be so stupid to not realise then about the notches!? I was anxious to get it all together I guess. -- infact your right. Even if the body fits, doesn't mean the outer part with the notches might fit.

if it slides all the way in and fits, then you should be able to cut the notches and make it work, or pull the wiring and get the right bars.
might end up doing this Dawg, cuz it might cost as much to ship them back and get another pair, same as paying a machine shop to cut the groves perfectly.
