Ordered a Primo Brute III belt drive for my Sloptail. When I get it hooked up, I'll have the perfect primary fluid solution - none! Will need to vent the primary for cooling, but no more dripping, changing, etc.!
Yep, dripping oil from an HD! Imagine that! In about 1000 - 1500 miles I "transfer" about a quart of oil from the crankcase to the primary. When it gets high enough it leaks out past the inner primary bearing. I'm told the inner primary seal isn't good for much. And obviously the seal behind my motor sprocket is shot. Well, guess I oughtta say I hope it's a shot seal, and not a cracked crankcase!
If I can fix the motor seal, the Primo will be run dry, of course. The kit comes with a new sealed inner primary bearing, instead of the stock open type bearing.
I got a paperback book for my birthday a couple of years ago called "Sit down, Shut up, and Hang on, a Biker's guide to life". One of the sayings in it is that Harleys DO NOT leak oil, they mark their territory!
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.[sm=grinangel.gif]

Say Skip, I've had a few friends try the belt drive closed primary senerio. They had some real issues with it running hot, even with vented derby and inspection covers. I hope you have better luck than they did. Keep us posted, and tell me exactly how you vented the primary I have a feeling that you'll solve this issue
Ron, I ran one on my old Shovel for nearly 160,000 miles. Used 2 belts in those miles. First was with unvented primary. After it broke I vented it by drilling holes in the front edge of the inner & outer primaries, and also drilled holes in the inspection cover and the derby cover. I ran a tin outer for awhile with no vents in it, but drilled some holes in the rear of the inner.
We toyed with the idea of slotting the front of the inner primary and venting the derby but no one wanted to be the guinea pig to try it out But now that I know it works........ I'll try it on somebody
