Leaving saturday for a trip to Savanah georgia , stone mountain . Is there any suggestions on where to stay , things to see ? My wife wants to go there , so we are going . We plan on spending the week in savanah and stone mountain , any thing to stay away from ? Like any big city there are some not so friendly areas . Would like decent hotel - motel info in both areas. How about some good eats ? THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!
It's nice to stay in the historic district, but of course it will cost more. There is a Days Inn in the historic district that you can walk to lots of neat things to see, not far from the river walk. Not much of anything between Savannah and stone mtn. Madison Ga, along I-20 is a nice town to stop in, lots of beautiful historic houses and not just on the main drag. Stone mtn area has tons of options being right outside Atl. North Ga mtns are nice to ride through of course hwy 60 through Suches, hwy 180, hwy 129 over blood mtn.
Yeah it is an ECHO CHAMBER. This is the craziest thing I have ever experienced. You stand in this one spot and speak. It will freak you out. To everyone around you you sound normal. But you are hearing this really weird echo. It is like you are standing on the vortex to hell. Check it out, something interesting to tell friends and family.
The cobble stone streets on the water front are nice to see and learn how they came to be. Also the food is excellent. The Crab Shack heading to Tybee is awesome especially if you like a REAL Low Country Boil.
We are going in late July....Went last year and stayed at the Thunderbird Inn motel....(staying there again this trip)Themed in 50-60's music, two R/C cola's and two moon pies in every room.....It's not down by the river but its not priced that way either....Trolly runs all over.town...Look it up....Its a great town to spend a couple days in !!!!
Check out the old cemetery in the Historic District, so many small baby graves, infant mortality was terrible then. Some famous people, lots of old, early 1700's dates. But it's also kind of a park, people were picnicking while we walked through.
For sure head out to Tybee Island, two different Forts and a light house to visit. A great place to eat is Crystal Beer Parlor in the Savannah historic district. Lots of things to see in the area.
