Hi all, being new to the HD scene i am quickly approaching 1K miles on my 2019 RGS and was wondering if the expense of the dealership service for this checkpoint is actually worth it or is it just another way for them to stick it up our tailpipes? I do have the service manual and this forum for guidance and plan do do most/not all of my own wrenching (I know my limits...lol) But in all seriouness, is this service worth the expense?

Reason: Serious typo
No, but when you bought a new '19 they should have thrown in the first service for free. If they did, I would use it, but if they didn't, it seems you missed out.
Just like when I bought my car, I made sure the first service, and second in my case, was free. I would prefer the first service be done by the dealer just to make sure they check it all out so if something needs fixing later on under warrenty there is no arguments.
IMHO use the dealer. They do more than just change the oil. My dealer had a large checklist of items they inspected during the initial service. I’m no mechanic, other than some simple wrenching, so it was worth it for my peace of mind.
Yep it should have been part of the deal when you bought the bike, get it done and then start doing your own maintenance. Save that cash for other things, like new upgrades and more cold beer.
Unless you're getting it for free as a negotiated part of the purchase deal - do it yourself!
You will get a better job, get to know your machine better, have peace of mind that everything was actually done and, if all of this weren't enough - you'll save money!
The checklist for everything that is supposed to be done on the 1,000 mile service is right in the Owner's manual. Other than glorified fluid changes - the 1,000 mile service is to catch screw-ups and/or omissions from the factory.
Thanks for the replies guys. Shame on me for not making that part of the deal, i am more than capable of doing it myself. I do remember the service mgr stating that he suggested bringing it it for the scheduled maintenance timepoints but if i wanted to do oil changes every 2500 miles i could do that myself. After i heard how much it would coat i was thinking that they are literally just gauging owners. For shame!
