..feel you pain dude, woke up this morning to the sound of bikes heading to Friday the 13th and must have seen hundreds on my way to work, but my bikes in the shop, so here I am at f'n work
I'm sorry to hear that Clammy. There isn't a dealership within driving range that has those parts?! Is Bike rental an option? Would they consider issuing you a loaner bike while yours is down?
I'm married and we just had a kid so I don't plan so many trips longer than a days ride. But one I had been planning for months to make.. Man, it would eat me up too. Hang in there bro and keep us updated.
I feel your pain, I haven't been able to take my bike out all season. Seems I can't get my starter fixed. I pulled it out in May and haven't been able to start it since. I've changed the battery, Startermotor, selenoid, relay, took apart the primary and still can't find the problem. I hope you have better luck fixing yours than I have.

We called all the dealers within about 200 miles, and NONE had the part (the pinion gear). A rental is just too expensive, and they don't have loaner bikes. Trust me, I went through all the possibilities with them, and there's just nothing I can do about it... I still can't believe I'm sitting here typing this when I should be 2 hours down the road right now. It just sucks.
One ray of hope is that I had planned to visit some friends in southeastern US after the weekend, and if I get my bike back on Monday, I can still salvage part of the trip. But the whole reason for the trip was to go to GBW and meet up with a bunch of forum members, so it's small consolation.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune, Clammy. Better now then the unit blowing up somewhere on a backroad. At least you can leave knowing stuff's been fixed.

Big Bummy Clammy. I just went through a similar scare. Even though its 2 weeks before we leave for Sturgis, I get nervous about back ordered parts at a time like this.
Luckily the dealer had me back on the road in three days.
Better days ahead .
