OP needs something like my old 2002 RKC. Runs strong and has been cared for. I'd be lucky to get 5K for it.

Unless you're capable of working on Harley's or want to become so, or know a reliable local indie, try to stick to bikes no older than 12 years. I say that even though you can get parts for the older ones, most dealers have established service cut offs for bikes older than 10-15 years.

I guess I'm lucky. My local dealer still works on Evos.

I think the used market went to crap in 15 or so. Recently I traded a bike in at a local shop and I can tell you it was tough to deal. I wish I was just buying straight out because I think it's a buyer's market out there.

It’s a buyers market right now. Don’t go by what people are asking. Most are out in left field. I like my Evo bikes but you can get a fairly new twin cam in your price range. There is a reason the Evo is considered by many to be the best motor Harley has ever produced.

Thats like my old bikes. I've got too much in to let them go as cheap as I could buy today otherwise. I've seen some real nice later model TC bikes with good prices on them.

Too late. This Evo guy heard it, and it's nonsense.

You can pick up early to mid 90's Evos all day long for $4k to $5k. Good, clean units with plenty of life left in them.

OP, do this: When you start shopping, seek out the Evo sub-forum here and post pics of the bikes you're looking at. Plenty of guys who know every nut and bolt on those. We'll steer you right.

Stay away from heavily modified bikes...get as close to stock as you can. Be patient and don't finance an 18 year old bike with no warranty from a dealer for 24 percent interest...please I'm begging you. Keep saving and you'll find a nice bike.
