No option for me. Wife needs my help getting on and getting off.

Wait, that did not sound right.

Anyway, I always dismount first. No big deal.

That's one of the reason's I ride a Heritage.
That is the only reason I can think of that I went from an Electra Glide to a Road King.
The Heritage is on my radar for the next downsize. I expect in another decade or so I will have no choice again.
If the Heritage ever gets too much to handle, well --shudder-- there are other brands.
We will be quite a sight in the distant future, riding the moped two up.

If your wife/GF has to get off for you to back in...might want to put her on a diet...

EDIT...and it shouldn't be a problem any way...the only way I am backing into a space, is if it is downhill...

If the only space available is uphill...I will just pull in..

I only fold them up when she is not with me but savvy advice as a person never knows.

Prepping for a trip, she's not going, I took the rear boards completely off. Such a huge difference from now on every time the TourPak and 2up seat come off so will the rear boards and mounts.

I get off and have her stay on to steer while I push the bike back.

Kidding. I haven't actually had a passenger onboard yet, so I don't know what to expect.

I don’t have anything to prove. So, when I’m backing, or even in some slow tight maneuver, my wife gets off. She then acts as my reverse gear or rear view camera as needed.

Fact: It's easier to back a bike solo than with a passenger
Fact: Backing uphill for any reason is a bad idea

It's a no-brainer, although I do enjoy watching a 'macho' biker wobbling his way into a parking spot because he's too cool to have her dismount.

To all the guys that are too macho to have their wife get off first: she'll have some side action at some point!!

As usual it depends. I always make sure the front of the bike is uphill so the kickstand is bending into the stop instead of the lock notch. That being said I always want to be able to control the bike with my wife on it no matter what the situation is. If I find out that I can't I need to discover what is wrong and rectify it if possible.

I figure as often as she rides my fat carcass I need to let her have a break and relax from time to time...
