I did this on my 19 SGS. Harley has the tear drop shaped plugs for 9 bucks. Used a set of mirrors off my wifes 500 Street.
They look great and work perfect.

Get the HD SplitVision mirrors, they have a larger viewing surface so you can see a wider angle out and back. If they're too short, (or if anyone elses mirror stems are too short), they make extensions that thread on to the stem to raise the mirrors up.

I got the stem mirrors mounted and the fairing mirrors off. Got some plugs from Lowes for the holes for the fairing mirrors. I think I will like the stem mirrors better. Didn't know if I would like the look but I do. Thanks for the comments.

I fully agree. I have these as well, and though they took a little to get use to they are a staple feature on my bike now....I would replace the stock mirror with these no question.
