I'm a bit confused. You desire wind protection and you limit your choices to a bike with a tiny fairing (Sport glide) and a bike that doesn't come with a windshield at all (Road King Special).
Yeah you are missing something,,,have you heard of "aftermarket fairings"????
My question was can the Sport Glide do "sort of" the same job for me as the RKS,,,that's all....

Of your two choices I would pick the RKS. But why the RKS vs a regular Road King? The RK comes with a windshield and better rear shocks if you are looking for a highway bike. I know you can add those things to the RKS, and if you are going to put on an aftermarket fairing then it doesnt matter as much.
As far as the weight, the RK only feels heavy when stopped or low speed maneuvers. The weight helps with the feeling of stability on the road.
I have ridden both a RKS and Sport Glide (2019 models) at a demo day. Neither one made me want to trade my 2014 RK.
Definitely the RK in my opinion.
I ride a road glide everywhere and I dont find it bad at all.
The RK has so much potential to be whatever you want it to be.
Hey bud. My son just started riding. He's 22. Currently he's on a Dyna Low Rider, but he's been out on my bike a couple of times and loves it. I have a '17 SG. He said he loves what my bike can do but he's not a fan of the lower fairings. He fell in love with the Sport Glide when he saw it.
Having bags is a game changer as far as I'm concerned. You'll love having them, even if you are just an around town rider.
Let us know which you decide and come back with pics.
