Something I noticed about "Statistics", How easily they can be slanted. Example - In some provinces in Canada it's now mandatory for motorists to use strictly winter tires during those designated months of the year because the "Statistics" showed that the majority of vehicles involved in accidents during winter conditions were running "All season" tires. No doubt because most car owners don't want the cost of two sets of tires and all else involved in having them changed twice a year. The glaring question needing to be answered here is "What percent of the total number of vehicles are running All Season tires"? OF COARSE the stats will show that the all season users had a greater number of accidents that's BECAUSE they greatly outnumber the others!!
Now let's look at what the stats say about anti lock brakes on motorcycles. Well, surprise suprise, one stat I read says bikes with anti lock brakes are 31% less likely to have a fatal crash -- Hogwash! How many million standard brake equipped bikes are there compared to those with anti lock? I'm not saying what's best for each rider but man, I'm about as eager to switch to anti lock brakes as I am to surrender my guns to our government.
If my grandkids had anti lock brakes on there tricycles I'd remove it for them!
The stats may not lie, but what about those interpreting them?
Unless you can accurately answer your own question, the point of your post is moot.

I guess moot means right on target? Stating there are more Harleys on the road without ABS than with is a no brainer. That's a bet I'd be willing to make.

The poster I quoted stated "bikes", not specifically "Harleys". It's well known that HD is late to the game when it comes to technology, ABS has been on motorcycles for more than thirty years. I'm sure your bet is safe, but would you be willing to wager the same, considering all manufacturer's bikes on the road?

A redneck with a Confederate flag and a big ole lady on the back ?
The OP missed his braking point scared himself shitless, his big ole fat lady on the back chewed his butt, he looked stoopid, nearly killed hiself , blame the bike , fix a problem that doesn't exist , move on.
This makes me glad that I don't have ABS brakes--something I otherwise would welcome. Having brakes that can suddenly not work is just not acceptable--whether fluid has been changed or not. ...and thanks to Skills for posting that consumer reports link. You know, if not changing the fluid in 2 years can cause deposits to form on components within the braking system, the obvious question is, "deposits of what?" If it's corrosion due to moisture intrusion, then what metals are corroding? ...and what engineer decided to use those materials? If what happened to the OP had happened to me, I would be ripping out the ABS system and installing conventional brakes. I don't know how he will ever trust his brakes again.
I wouldn't make any decisions about what I believe about Harley Davidson or their ABS based on a hard to believe story from some guy on the internet who likes to tell really dramatic stories.

So some bikes 1989 and earlier had ABS? You learn something every day. I assumed that since this was an HD Forum and the OP owned a Harley, we were referring to Harleys. My bad, lol.

I think you and I might be mistaken. This place has become the every other make of motorcycle is better than a Harley-Davidson and heres why forum.
After all, the only reason to own a motorcycle is how fast it accelerates and how many high tech features it has. At least thats what I seem to hear around here anymore.
