yeah, i liked having a road atlas. but it isn't the lack of the road atlas that made me not renew my hog membership oh so many years ago. i just didn't see the value in paying $40 a year for things that i could get elsewhere. towing? got that on my insurance. cell phone discount? i work for the military, i get just as much, if not more, of a discount that way. quarterly hog magazine? pffft. don't read it anyway. being able to get into a hog rally? yeah, no thanks. annual road atlas? okay, got me there. but you know what? google maps works pretty good too.

Just another example of them taking your money and continuing to provide less service for it! HOG membership used to cover your rental insurance if you did a "Fly and RIde" , but they cut that out too. Will probably cancel mine when it comes back up, I don't need patches and pins!

Yeah, that was my main reason for keeping my HOG membership, but really, the maps weren't that good for ride planning. I got most of my maps at the various State Welcome Centers. Those maps show the roads in the State that you really want to ride.

I get that paper maps are pretty much outdated and I'm glad I have kept a few of the HD Tourbooks. They are useful on a roadtrip when GPS goes out on the phone in a remote place, and I like to sit with one, ini the evenings, on a trip and see an overview of my next day's route.

HOG membership is for people that want to belong to something and do things with like minded people. Loners really don't fit in with HOG members and their activities - just stay away and we'll all be happy.

Why do people join VFW's, Amvets, car clubs, AAA, book clubs, country clubs, fraternities, etc.??? - - - BECAUSE THEY WANT TO - it's that simple.

I'm definitely gonna miss them, I always liked looking through the maps to plan out potential routes for wherever I wanted to ride. It's always nice to have something tangible to actually hold when you pay money for something too. Sadly, tangible bonuses are going the way of the dodo and not just with HOG

Like trim and lights on fenders, heel shifters, a second fob and a whole bunch other things that at least symbolized that the MoCo cares ... gone!

And the biggest deletion = the CB radio. That's about $850 to add on. I didn't see the list price go down - actually went up.
I know a lot of riders say they don't use it, but everyone I know uses it especially the chapter road captains.

Don't forget the tool kit - not the swiss army crap....... and the front wind deflector between the forks.

The thing is, if the MoCo is cheaping out on such obvious stuff, it does beg the question of what are they cheaping out on that's not so obvious?

You know, like the "millions of miles" the M8 was tested before it was released to the public ... but sumping, fluid transfer, clutch recall issues only happened after the "millions of miles" of testing. If they're not giving us a darned paper atlas or heel shifter or other little things do we really believe they are giving us the absolute best wheel bearings, cam bearings, brakes, tires or anything else for that matter?

I remember when Hyundai (or was it Kia, I forget) wanted to shake their "cheap" car image and tout their durability and reliability so what did they do? They gave a 10 year/100,000 power train warranty. BOOM!

I could live without the atlas, the heel shifter, second fob and what not; but for they prices Harley charges, how about a 5 year/50,000 mile power train warranty?
