Default Need E-Bay Expert

So I've been watching a nice 2018 CVO Street Glide on Ebay for several days, waiting for the final hours to bid. The seller looked legit, with over 100 positive feedbacks, and a long time member. With a little more than 4 hours remaining, the high bid was only $22K, making me think I might have a shot at winning the auction. I submitted my max bid for $25,600, but got an e-bay message stating: "Sorry, the seller is not accepting bids or offers from you at this time". I tried to message the seller, but got another message stating that the seller is not accepting messages from you at this time. I've got 100% positive feedback and over 450 transactions as both buyer and seller. I don't get sh1tty with people on e-bay, so that wasn't a factor either. I can understand canceling a zero or low feedback bidder, which I've done in the past. But not this. To top it off, the auction ended yesterday, and the bike sold for an even $25K. This morning I messaged the Seller (apparently I was no longer blocked once the auction ended) and let him know what happened.

This is the first time I've ever seen something like this happen. And I do a fair amount of buying on E-bay, although not as much as in the past.
I've got a couple thoughts on what might have happened (some nefarious in nature), but was wondering if any Ebayer on here has any possible explanations for this?
Would appreciate any constructive thoughts on this. Thanks for reading!

I'd check directly with EBay and see what they say. It seems very odd, like the seller had some kind of side deal in the works.

There are a multitude of reasons a seller can block buyers. It can be based on recent purchases, the feedback you left or if you have a paypal account linked to your ebay account.

My guess is that with the dollar amount of the bike the seller had some sort of filter set up that limited bids to buyers who had successfully made large purchases before. if you have 450 transactions but they are all for something less than $10 and now you are bidding $26,000 the seller figures you don't really have that much money.

From doing a Google search, it appears it is the seller's prerogative to block bidders and, when they do, that is the message they get when they attempt to bid or contact the seller.

could it be the seller was only accepting local bids so he doesn't have to ship the bike?

I’ve gotten that message before. It was from lowballing for a “ make offer “ item.

link to the ad? Many times the seller will want to pre qualify you in some way, shape, or form to make sure you are capable of doing the deal before they allow you to bid .
If you "win" and stiff the guy, it is a real PITA and expensive for the seller... just the EBAY fees alone will eat up a chunk of change

eBay used to have a feature where only pre-approved bidders could bid. Not sure if they still offer that feature but sure sounds like that's what you are experiencing.

I've sold quite a bit of stuff on ebay. Below are the buyer restrictions you can implement to block groups of buyers, you can also block specific buyers. My guess is the seller is limiting buyers to a certain area, possibly local area. Or they were trying to block a specific individual and blocked you in error.

Block bidders and buyers who have received 2345 Unpaid Item strike(s) within 1612 month(s)
This requirement can help you avoid bidders and buyers with a history of not paying for the items they have agreed to purchase.

Block buyers whose primary shipping address is in a location I don't ship to.
This requirement can help you avoid buyers who agree to purchase your items without realizing you don't ship to their location.

Block buyers who have a feedback score of -1-2-3 or lower.
This requirement can help you avoid buyers who have received more negative than positive feedback from other eBay members bidding on your item.

Only apply this block to buyers who have a feedback score of 543210 or lower.

Block buyers who are currently winning or have bought 12345678910255075100 of my items in the last 10 days.

Buyers who may bid on several of my items and not pay for them
Consider selecting this requirement if you are selling expensive items and don't want to sell over a certain number to any single buyer. Learn more about how this requirement works.

Apply above settings to active and future listings.

I've heard of you before. The simple fact is, your wife doesn't like you; your kids don't like you; your neighbors don't like you; your boss and co-workers don't like you, as well as your dog and a number of others. I personally am on the fence, but beginning to believe all the others may be right. I for one, am not surprised you were blocked. I hope this helps.
