...RCHD used to have some of the best demo days. They'd have a ride leader & sweep. would ride a really nice 12-14mile course through part of Cuyahoga Valley by the old Valley View Golf Course, down Sackett, Cuyahoga Falls Ave., etc. Would go to alot of their demo days, they were great. Now, for the last couple of years they just want you to ride a bike one mile down the road, turn around and come back. WTF? It isn't a f'kin demo ride like that at all. Haven't even been back there for a few years now. All good things must come to an end.
When Laugermans HD was still in operation in York Pa they were about the best around to deal with. I bought 3 bikes from them and I always made sure to deal with Michael who was one of the owners. I was there looking at a used Road King one day and he comes over and hands me the keys and said take it out for a while and see what you think. I told him I wanted to wait until I could bring the wife along with me to see what she thought because she really liked the Electra Glide I was currently riding and I wanted her to be able to feel how the Road King felt. Michael says take the RK and go get her then ride it around for a while. I told him my house was 45 minutes away and it would take too long to go there and get her then bring it back. He said we close at 6:00 today, just be back here by 5:30. This was at about 10:00 in the morning.
I went and got the wife and we test rode all day. I took the bike back and told him we liked it and were very interested so he and I worked a deal. I gave him his asking price which was very reasonable and he let me keep the tour pack off my Electra Glide and had his shop mount it on the Road King with a quick detach bracket. He also let me pull off all the mods that I could swap to the Road King. The RK didn't have a windshield which was an issue for me so he pulled one off another used bike on the floor and threw it in with the deal. Those guys knew how to treat a customer which is why I bought from them every time I could. I wish they were still in business.
Once a deposit is given, they can not by law sell it after the fact to someone else. That is the very reason why a deposit is given and accepted.
I used to work with a guy who bought and sold a lot of bikes and made a few bucks doing it. One day he saw an ad in the Auto/RV, called the mid-Michigan multi brand dealer, and used his CC to put a deposit on a used bike with the understanding that he would come in after work to complete the purchase and pick up the bike. When he arrived at the dealer with his traler later that afternoon, the bike had been sold. His CC was never billed. The salesman said that he was sorry.
