back in the day a buddy of mine had a 68 Camaro with a custom steering wheel that was kinda cool looking but the rubber like material around the outside was flaking off so he used a roll of hockey tape to wrap it and it turned out awesome that tape is like a really durable cloth like material, but not sure I would wrap my bars with it? but to each his own!!

In a work setting it is an OSHA violation to repair most things electrical with it...

Just spray the handlebars with PlastiDip, but tape off the areas where the risers and controls will go, so it doesn't tear or peel it back off. No scratching/prep needed. Just make sure they're clean, and spray. If you don't like the look, just peel it back off. Easy-Peezy!
