Softail shifter
That said, this can be done and has been done. What I saw was done by modifying the forwards on a bike to accommodate another rod that went back to a home-made bracket for a mid mount footpeg/shifter. It wasn't very well done and the mid-mount had a lot of slop. Better design/construction might've solved the slop.
Seems to me a better way would be to use a through-the-primary mid setup. Might require some serious fabrication. Don't know if a Superglide type inner/outer primary would work on the Softail, but I have my doubts they are the same. If this method was used a shift pedal would have to be fabbed with a vertical lever welded or machined as part of the shift lever/pedal. The shifter rod from the forward would go to the vertical part of the mid shifter.
Doesn't seem worth the effort and cost for no real advantage.
