Like many (and unlike many others) I can't get on with a heel shifter. So, I don't have one. The side effect is that the toe on my left boot is showing some wear from up shifting. It isn't too bad, but I wouldn't want it to get much worse.
So, what are the alternatives? Does anyone have experience of 'kinder' shift pegs or perhaps rotating ones (which may be kinder)?
Any thoughts or recommendations (aside from "put the heel shift back on") would be appreciated.
Try using a shifter peg that's a little wider. Rotate it around so it hits the whole boot face and tighten it there. By spreading out the area where it hits your boot it should be better..
Good luck.
I use the HD Slipstream peg, no issues so far with my boot toe. It has a smooth chromed underside. Never got the hang of the heel shifter either, probably because I learned to ride without one.

Extend the shifter and cover it with a piece of rough out leather/ suede. La choppers makes an extended length shift peg. Pingel also has a couple of products to extend the shift peg/ arm out.
