We haul a 2017 Heritage and 2015 Road King with our 7x14 V-nose from R and M manufacturing (Omaha and Denver/Colo Springs). Google them at www.reedtrailer.com to see pics and prices. Weight of trailer is 2150 pounds, payload is 4850 pounds, tandem axle, 15 inch tires with electric brakes. They are good trailers.

Bikes are offset to fit hauling two. Probably could use an 8' trailer if just 1 HD, but the touring bikes are about that in length. 12' would be easier for 1 bike.

Installed 2 Condor wheel chocks and use quality tie downs. Don't skimp on either of these!

Condor are great—wheel chocks about $155 each (SC 2000). Easy to ride on and load by yourself and seems secure even without straps!
erail tie down system about $150 rail plus d ring tie downs and pit boss tie down hooks and anchors $50
Rhino tie downs - heavy duty $60 for a package. I strap two on front pulling the motorcycle into the chocks, 1 strap on back to prevent slide to sides.

I have towed it with Honda Pilot SUV. Brought it from 3500 pound to 5,000 pound tow capacity with added transmission cooler and trailer brake controller. I also have used a Chev Silverado 1500 High County that has built in brake controls. Yes mpg drops from about 22 to 8-10 on Honda. Drops from 17 mpg to about the same 8-10 on pickup.

Tows easily with either.

Trailer was about $6000, about $7000 in it total with wheel chocks, spare tire, tie down anchors, hitch etc.

I'll second the Condor... I haven't used mine IN my trailer, but I used it to check the sight glass on one of my bikes. The bike was kept upright and in position, and the chock is adjustable for different wheel sizes - easy to adjust.

I gotta get some new straps - glad to hear good things about Rhino - they're in my Amazon shopping cart right now.

I've thought about that. Do you have anything set up to keep the cable from rubbing on the end of the trailer floor until the bike gets high enough to lift it off the trailer floor?

I replaced my straps with Rhino last year and if I need any more, they'll be Rhino, too, I like them better than any other I've used.

For what it's worth: You can replace a winch cable with Dyneema rope in a very small diameter. Quarter-inch Dyneema rope rates at about 10,000 pounds tensile strength. It's light as a feather and won't eat your hands.

As for protecting the trailer floor back edge (where it might rub until the bike comes up the ramp some) you can use a piece of 3" diameter schedule 40 or 80 pvc pipe. Lay it in the gap between the ramp and trailer floor and let cable (or rope) glide over the top of it.

Why Condor Over Discount Ramps Baxley Sport Chock? I wait until they are $15% off. It has a lock bar.
I have three bikes side by side and never need the lock. Heritage softail, ZX14 Kawasaki and Ducat Diavel. Just drive in and walk away.

This pvc and tarp idea scares me. Seems like the kind of idea that winds up costing you way more than you are trying to save in gas.

We had two baggers and a honda three wheeler and a whole bunch of other stuff loaded in there this weekend,

The drag bagger

you do have a good setup Jeremy, nice to meet you Saturday

I use an Aluma MC10. It weighs 465 pounds and the ramp stows in the trailer. You don't even know it's behind you.

Hasn't damaged anything...I use the soft straps mounted between the triple tress to pull it up...bike only has to go a couple of feet up the ramp before it clears...I put a big towel on the bike fender and wench away...

Haven't tried it on a bike with a fairing yet...

Have you heard of or seen Tank Straps? The guys at SRK Cycles love them (and sell them).

Also, I need to get some trailer attachments for my Condor (and another Condor) and install them in my trailer. No biggie parking on the jiffy stand, but it seems safer to just have the bike parked in a Condor chock inside my trailer.
