I never thought of this before, but I wonder if when sitting empty if would make any difference for the tires to lower the pressure to something like 30psi on the dual axle trailer. Doubt if they'd bulge any at that pressure, holding less weight than a small car. I always check tire pressure before pulling, so I wouldn't worry about forgetting and pulling it that way.

I had one that would handle a couple fine, but I built it myself using a torsion axle with a frame that probably could have handled a car. Had three rails, but I never carried more than 2 bikes, too narrow, a center wouldn't fit but I planned it that way. Relatively small trailer with a torsion axle really rode smooth, even with a couple lightweight trail bikes, previous bike trailer I had with springs bounced awful with a single bike, but never carried one that weighed over 550 lbs on that one.

I never said to ignore the limitations of trailer tires as opposed to automobile tires when referring to their reliability. I rely only on what the experts in the tire industry say. So call BS all you want if it makes you feel better.

Even for a single axle open bed trailer, not a bad idea to have a spare wheel anyway.

great advise !!!

From a 35 year truck driver, get at least a 7x14 V nose 6' high with tandem axles with that axle buddy self greasing system. E track is nice but not necessary, it does add to the weight...and make sure its bolted to the frame, not just screwed to the floor. You'll be a happy camper.

All very good advice. I’ll add and suggest getting Torsion Axles if at all possible.

No truer words spoken...lol!

I purchased the basic 7x14 vnose tandem cargo trailer. Immediately found when time to install floor rings the flooring was not up to my liking. Ended up putting down another layer of 3/4” sheathing and bolted tie down rings to the frame. Finished the interior walls, paint and all good to go. After that I was into for less than 4 grand.
