Hey folks. I have a wall in my house that Id like to put a permanent US map on and put push pins or something to mark destination across the country that we have rode to. I have a space about 8’ wide by 5’ tall. Does anybody have source to get a map like this?
Well, I thought I had the perfect thing for you but I can't seem to find it in my bookmarks. I thought I had a bookmark for a large giclee print wall map made out of actual satellite imagery, in the Van der Grinten projection. The link below is basically that but this isn't the site that I remember; the one I'm remembering was much more expensive.
Do you want a road map, or more of a physical and topographical style map? I think a road map would add a lot of clutter and irrelevant details, whereas a physical or satellite image map would show more of the terrain, and make your data points (your pins) stick out more. The point of the map would be more clear at a glance, and these new satellite image maps are just beautiful.
There are even people who could make you custom maps in GIS software if you wanted that. Your data points could be built into the map itself, but then you wouldn't be able to add new destinations with pins like you wanted. Here are some subreddits where you can learn more: Maps and Map **** and GIS
