I've ridden with various groups, never quite finding a group I could completely identify with. So last week I was at my Indy and a huge, rough character was there and we began chatting and his looks and his character were two different things. He was cordial, well-spoken and gregarious. Told him I had a Harley and he said he was the Chapter President for Chp. 308 and invited me to join. I did and went to the monthly meeting at the Harley dealer. Had a great experience!
The Harley dealer on Morena Blvd. here is a biker's paradise. The place is huge and I can't list all the neat things they have there beside a huge inventory of new bikes, but they have a large event room in the back with black leather couches for up to 100 people. Walked into the meeting and the place was nearly full! Huge screen and the front of the room and color presentations by members and a whole slew of people just like me. Chicks too. I took Ruki and nobody minded and it was a great meeting of presentations, planning events and a talk about made in America from the owner of the franchise.
All in all, it was a fantastic experience and I am so glad I went and joined and looking forward to group rides with these folks. If you have a HOG chapter in your area and aren't a member, I'd check it out.
I'm a current HOG officer (Ladies of Harley this year) and have also been Secretary and Activities Officer too. My Chapter is busy and active and I enjoy it. Just came back from an Officers Training weekend in Tampa.
HOG was a very good experience for us for a few years when we started riding again here in NC. We met some people that we are friends with today. Found some cool destinations much quicker than we would have on our on. It is a great place to learn safety and group riding techniques. I served as safety officer , Road captain, activities director, assistant director and director. We would still be there but kind burnt out, decided to devote more time to Rolling Thunder and frankly just like to get out on long rides for the joy of the “Open Road”.
The HOG chapter near me will do rides, but only in groups of 4 so they don't interfere with traffic. WTF is that? Motorcycles are second class vehicles?
We joined our local chapter in December. Been on one ride so far ( it’s been a busy couple of months with other stuff) and it went ok. They do a lot of things at the dealership - help out with demo days, bbq’s, etc. The jury is still out on how we feel about it all, time will tell.
