Default 6 speed transmission capacity

I've got a 2007 Street Bob and a 2012 Superglide Custom. Both six speed dynas. The factory service manual for the 2007 specifies 32 oz for a transmission oil change and the FSM for the 2012 specifies 28 oz. I'm just curious if anyone knows what changes were made to the six speed transmission between 2007 and 2012 to make the change in capacity? I looked up the part numbers on Ronnies and the trans housings and oil pans have the same PN for both years, but complete transmissions have different PN's. Hmmmmm

I've always put "abouty" a quart in every Harley (big V-twin) I've ever owned and never had any transmission problems. Between the cling that stays in the bottle and being either a little sloppy or a little in a hurry - it probably gets about 30.5 - 31.5 ounces +/- and like I said, never had a problem. I generally use synthetic multi-viscosity gear oil or Red Line or something similar. YMMV.

If the housings and the pan are the same then that must mean the gears inside the 2012 housing take up more space so there is less room for fluid???

Does i really matter? Fill it until the dipstick says full.

I know I've dumped a quart in there (the 2012) every time I changed it in the past. And like Bone Doc said, doesn't matter that much. I was just wondering from an engineering standpoint what they changed. No big deal.

All Harley capacities are crazy. Hot vs. cold, wet vs. dry, primary 32-40oz etc. Huh?

Add fluid till it's in the cross hatch or between add and full.
