With all the aftermarket stuff for Harleys its pretty easy to keep old bikes up to date.
Ill go ahead and keep upgrading whatever breaks on my 09 and stay away from getting bent over on a new one.
My bike is 20x better than it was in stock form so why would I want to sell it and start over?
Typically you're correct, with one exception. You can't make a pre-18' Softail anything close to the new ones. With the new chassis and the M8, they nailed it out of the park.
You are exactly correct on many fronts, except for assuming Harley will ever offer a rebate. GOD FORBID they devalue their gold-plated product offerings by taking any less than they think they're worth...
(Humorously enough, didn't the FXDR price drop like $3000 from '19 to '20 because nobody was buying them?)
👍 In the end it is only worth what people are willing to pay for it regardless of what you are trying to sell.
The Coronavirus will be the perfect excuse to implement rebates as HOG stock has dropped 49% in the last 3 months and all the employees that have been furloughed.
They will play it as giving back to the community after all the hardships people have suffered. Giving back is good for the corporate image and will jumpstart sales once the economy opens and move the bikes they desperately need to move.
If I or anyone buys a new bike from my local dealer, chances are that we are going to spend a few thousand dollars after the purchase. I am assuming that you are new to Harley or getting back into riding a Harley. If I'm going to spend $3000.00 on clothing an accessories and can get a discount of 20%, that means I save $600.00. Assuming that the dealer makes a 100% markup, why wouldn't the local dealer want to make $900.00 in income when you are going to spend it elsewhere anyway? I only ask my local dealer to give me a discount because I bought a bike there! I realize that I have to pay local sales tax but I'm willing to do that...still no discount! When I buy online I save 28% because I don't have to pay sales tax! If the local dealer gave just 10 people a 20% discount and they all spent $3000.00 after the purchase, they would have $9000.00 in income to their business, but they don't care...mind boggling to me!
