I work at a Toyota dealer, and Toyota uses two kinds of systems, One is called indirect, uses wheel speed sensors, the other is direct system, which uses presure transducers in the valve stem.
the indirect system can sense the difference in wheel speeds with lower tire presures.
the other is battery powered and sends freqency signs to the tire ECU and it translates the signal into a presures.
the Police bike which have ABS from the factory could easly have a indirect tire presure monitor added in the system.
Dancemax:
A tire with lower air pressure will have a smaller rolling radius since the tire will deflect more which puts the axle on that tire closer to the road. This smaller rolling radius makes the tire turn more in the same distance as a fully inflated tire. That is how the tire speed sensors can detect a low air tire.
A low tire will rotate more than a properly serviced tirebecause its circumference is smaller than a properly serviced tire. My impalastire pressure light is triggered by a wheel speed sensorWhen I was driving Friday night dirt track cars we used tire pressure to accomplish a lot too include tire roll out.

I dont undesrtand this rotation speed. A lower pressure tire will rotate the same speed or just as many turns in a given distance as the high pressure tire. So there is a sensor in the valve stem?. Why not in a motor cycle. I think that willbe a great safety item.
That is incredible. Does it give you the beer temp to that is in the ice chest on top of the spare?

Are you sure about the sensor being in the valve stem. I doubt the sensor is rotating part. Your ABS system is able to detect a tire that is making more revulsions than the others so it detects a low tire on my Impala that way. You would need ABS front and back and tires that are exactly the same circumference/ air pressureto incorperate a leak detect system and I still don't think it would be worth the trouble?
Has to be in the valve on my Tacoma, got the light checked all 4 tires and the light stayed. Called the service dept and the tech says "did you check the spare?" Sure enough, the spare was low, filled it and the light went away.
