I love my Iron 1200 and bought it over all the other Harleys in their lineup. It’s a really fun bike. I’m not riding the highway with it but mostly back country roads that twist and turn. It’s a perfect “retro” bike for that kind of riding and still retains the Harley character.

This past summer I was in Buffalo in a torrential downpour, two-up on a road glide ultra packed from a trip out west. Attempting to go to the Olive Garden for dinner, had to cross something like 5 lanes of traffic to get to the Olive Garden and damn near got killed. A sporty would have zipped right across.....you being from Buffalo, I understand why you are considering the sporty.
I’ve got a 2008 Ultra Classic 105th Anniversary, it was my first used 20-9 bike after:37 years of not riding. Now I’m looking at a 2018 Sportster-‘Iron 1200! I ride mainly in city traffic m.’
Sorry, all I saw was "Am I Nuts" with a sig of "Jerry Lewis"... I forgot the question..I've got nothing..
I say go for it. They still haven't made one bike that can do it all. I have three different bikes (different brands) because different bikes have different riding characteristics and excel in areas that others dont. There is more than one style of riding too.
