I’ve got a 2008 Ultra Classic 105th Anniversary, it was my first used 20-9 bike after:37 years of not riding. Now I’m looking at a 2018 Sportster-‘Iron 1200! I ride mainly in city traffic m.’

No not at all mate. As they say, "whatever floats ur boat".
FWIW, I ride in the city a lot and I have a baggers.
When I was in Boston, downtown Boston at that, I was thinking, would I rather have a smaller bike and immediately I thought no. Not at all.
I really think JerLewis, it is whatever makes u happy. To me, a bigger bike, NICER RIDE, more capacity to put stuff was important.
Will them there folks see me better on a bigger bike? Maybe. That would only be a bonus.
I always thought it would be cool to have a smaller bike just for short trips around the city and maybe the odd day trip . There is something to be said about a smaller bike being able to rip around and have some fun on , I say go for it !

Whatever floats your boat. Only you can decide. What is a 20-9 bike?
Nuts? I'd imagine since you are on this forum the answer is yes.
Seriously, city traffic, 1st & 2nd gear, parking - Sportsters are perfect.
The issue with an Iron, is it short travel suspension (comfort).
Ad nauseum suspension mods (including seat replacement) are discussed in Sportster section of this forum.
Also the fuel tank is only 3.3 gallons and I'd expect 30 mpg in town.
Lack of "bags" storage could also be a consideration, but there are options.
Lastly, 2-up riding, not the best choice, but from bar to hotel room....perfect.
Looking like a circus bear LOL. Maybe an upgraded look?
Good luck in your decision.

My 09 xl low would get in the 50+ mpg range all the time. I rode it mostly around town and had a windshield and bags. Before the windshield I would hit 60 mpg.

What he said. And what is a 20-9 bike?
Forget about what you look like on it. If you're comfortable and in control that's all that matters. Who cares what you look like on it; are you riding a motorcycle because you love riding or because you want people to look at you?
I don't know if you're nuts. I've got 3 HDs in the garage and I love riding the Sportster, and I'm not nuts, I'm Crazy.
