I've used the Harbor Freight manual tire changer for quite a while. I also have the balance stand. The days of changing you own tires are about gone. Modern tires are so stiff even if you do manage to get them on the rim you can't seat the bead without professional equipment. I tried mounting some Dunlop Elite 4's the other day. Wound up carrying them to the local shop. They almost didn't get the beads to seat. I couldn't even do it with my bead blaster air tank.
I just dropped the tires off this morning at an indy. The guys might be hung over from the weekend, I dropped them off, politely reminded them that the tires are "directional" to which the guy replied "I may mount them backwards anyway"
Then I asked if they like cash or card,as I usually never carry cash, to which the feller replied" whatever ya want cash, credit, check, but cash is better...' I then said "I can stop back at lunch or after 5"
again the guy said"whichever ya want' I said "Ok, Ill be back at 1230.." i then asked how much it would run for mount balance and disposal of old rubber, the feller was like' Lets see $28 bucks plus disposal..I dunno 50 dollars...?"
keep in mind 28 x 2 = 56. I yanked 100 out of the ATM to go back at 1230. We shall see...this is my first dealing with these guys. They seem cool though, its deifinitely a motorcycle and auto shop, there were a couple of nice custom bikes sitting out front.
I picked up the tires at lunch time. 50 bucks, mount, balance and disposal. The guy did say he 'liquid balanced " them. Will have to see that that is about.
i saw the same thing. I put it in the cart and the price did not change. I almost bought it just to see what would happen
I went ahead and clicked purchase. I used PayPal just in case. 3 weeks later no shipment info and supplier would not respond. Filed claim in PayPal and a week later got a refund from the seller. Total scam IMHO.
So, you figure $300 for Dunlop American Elites, plus $50 for install= $350. me thinks H-D still charging $600/ pair for the "Dunlop Harley Davidson" tires that come stock. that and I can do some cleaning detailing on the wheels etc while they are off the bike.
will be replacing my front soon, have an 8" C clamp for bead breaker, kind of crude but does the job. have been having Cycle Gear change them for a while but am going to start doing them again. saw the video of how to do it with nylon ties and am going to try that this time. also ordered a Marc Parnes balancing tool.
I read this thread this morning while preparing my constitutional remarks. Thought about all the advice all day at work. Just went to No-Mar's website and added the ultimate rig to my basket (added the ATV tire bead breaker since I have a few of them too). Put the address in and credit card and it got declined. Added everything to cart again, put the card info and shipping info again, making sure I typed everything perfectly. Declined again. Noticed I left my middle initial off while it was on the card so I added that and clicked submit for the third time...yup...declined.
On the phone with credit card company. He says the billing address didn't match. I looked in the purchase cart and noticed they ask for billing address first, then shipping address or voce-versa...or something...not my fault! LOL. That's the exact opposite of every commerce site I've ever done.
So I fix the problem...credit card releases the fraud alert. I click purchase and No-MAR's site says Denied...more than the allowed number of transactions per day. Arhgg!
So I have it all in my shopping cart and will try again tomorrow.
On a side note...got some dirt biking done this weekend and my son needs a new tire...he could not keep yup with me. But my body hurts today.
