The most comfortable hot-weather boots I've ever worn have been Altama jungle boots. Lightweight, and once broken in, as comfortable as wearing just a pair of socks indoors. Two drain holes and the canvas material(?) dries out really fast. They'll last a good solid couple of years if you keep the leather parts shoe polished (don't need to be shiny, of course, just make sure the polish is good and rubbed in to the leather well). Not sure if Altama is Made in USA anymore though. Beware the chinee knockoffs. You *WILL* hate them as they don't break in well, aren't quite the same cuts and measurements as the true jungle boots from Altama, and no telling what critter the leather came from but it doesn't take polish well. The soles are only glued on too...you'll find that out in the worst time when one falls off or comes halfway off.

Socks make the difference...I wear Danner tactical boots in the summer and wick away socks. Thorlo socks are awesome. I use to stop at the Thorlo outlet inStatesville NC when I travelled. I have multiple styles socks for different times of the year.

On the topic of socks, I've been wearing over-the-calf compression socks for a few years now. I have always hated pulling up my socks throughout the day and these stay up ALL DAY LONG. My current models delivers around 30mm/Hg of compression, which is helpful as I am on my feet on the training range all day. Also, very thin and moisture-wicking. They are, however, a royal pain to get on and off.

I like to wear another pair of socks over the compression. Even with a couple models from duluth trading that have some padding. I think people overlook a good sock. I pretty much only wear wigwam merino wool hiking socks, some heavier stuff in the winter.

I never bothered to pull my socks up, so that is not why I wear compression socks.

boots.
I moved away from recraftable boots awhile ago. I have to have comfortable boots due to some issues. Injection molded, like tennis shoes is the way to go. Most of your $200+ Red Wing, timberlands, ect are. $300+ might get you into sewn on soles with Danner. All they are is a hunk of rubber, or such sewn on. Think about that.

As far as getting soles sewn back on, by the time that happens, most of the support is gone from the rest of the boot. What people call broken in, is lack of support.

Would you wear atheletic shoes with hard rubber bottom?

What did the OP decide?

The short boots on post 2, Alpinestar, to me seem to answer the question and may be the best for cool feet.
But, I like a higher standard height boot and I see Alpinestar also sells a standard vented boot.
Comments about socks have merit.
Cyclegear on line has a vented boot, "Sedechi?" but I would would be concerned about quality, I think this brand is a Cyclegear in house brand, and boot life.

Lots of great info here, thank you! I think I might try high end socks before purchasing another pair of boots. I have two pair of good boots; Redwing lace ups, and Chippewa Rally boots. If I can cool my tootsies with better socks I’ll be satisfied.

Compression socks are actually great on a long trip. Good for circulation, same while flying.

I've got a pair of Klim Outlander on the way. Kinda like hiking boots, with Gore-tex, and D30 ankle protection, etc.

https://www.cyclegear.com/gear/klim-outlander-gtx-boots

Ordered from Cycle Gear because they've got a local store for easy returns, if necessary, and a discount for MSF RiderCoaches.
