Tap the head means (or did) heads up. It can be used to warn of anything ahead not just L.E.

I've never heard of it either. I think cop warnings have faded away. I remember flashing the brights in cars when I was younger. Today eveyeone is so focused on other **** to warn people

I was in my truck yesterday and passed a cop shooting radar. Next thing I see is a bike going the other way toward the cop. I started to tap my head, but I don't think he would have seen me.
