For those that think they are snake oil, or some aftermarket hype, yes Harley puts them on the SE models, but more than that, Buell puts them on all of their bikes that are powered by Sportster motors and Victory puts them on all of their air-cooled bikes.Must be a reason.
oil coolers only work while the bike is moving and getting air to it. (in which case the bike is already cooling). this isnt to say that they dont "work". they do "work" BUT...
as for the heat? you have only a few options.
1. you need to enrichen the mixture. the stock harley is lean for epa requirements and therefore HOT HOT HOT.
2. get a free flow air cleaner AND a set of pipes/slip ons because stock harley is air restricted (also epa requirement for the air cooled bike)
3. switch to synthetic oil
4. get a saddle heat shield (kuryakin makes one)
5. get over it. air cooled bikes suck at long stop lights in the summer. (in winter the heat feels nice). once you get moving again, the bike cools right down
