At that point, when you look at the invoice, there will be charges there, largely because each department needs to get their cut. I dont care if they charge me $1.00 for the bike, and $34,999 in fees, it just doesnt matter. Dont get caught up in getting pissy about fees.
Exactly right and I negotiate the same exact way. The only price that matters is the out the door price and I could care less how they have to manipulate the numbers to get me where I want to be in order to make a deal.
My most recent deal I was negotiating with multiple dealers and the one with the best out the door price won. They made it look on paper like they gave me 19,400 for my 2017 SGS. The only number that mattered was what I was paying out the door....After doing the math. If I had paid MSRP + their doc fees, destination charge they really gave $16,800 for SGS but I know the trade in value was around $14,500 as per KBB and NADA so they definitely discounted the price of the RGL by a few thousand dollars. Next best deal was $1800.00 more for the same bike and that dealer wasn't budging another penny.. April was a great month to negotiate since dealers showrooms were closed and they weren't moving any of their bikes at the time. At least where I live....
I didn't realize the extra fees I paid when I got my Sport Glide 2 years ago brand new. Just looked at the invoice and the doc fee/dealer fee/setup/freight was over $1K!!! Should've looked at the numbers better... I didn't know the set up is now rebated to the dealer. Thanks!
Freight is actually a legit charge as it's not included in the MSRP listed on the website.
As far as the other charges go it's the same old story no matter what vehicle you're buying - dealers will charge whatever they feel they can get away with, and whatever you let them charge you.

Yep I do the same. Last weekend when I traded my 2017 RGU for a 2020 RG Limited I told the dealer the price I would pay out the door, I told him I did not care what he gave me for the trade, what price he sold me the 2020 for or what the fees were. I told him the price I would write a check for, of course he came back a little higher and I stood firm on my price and got the deal done. I did not go in looking to trade, my plan was to trade after the first of the year in the winter where from experience I have got better deals however I feel in love with this color and basically he gave me a deal I could not walk away from
As a side note when talking to the owner of the dealership who I have known since he bought the dealership a few years ago he told me that he was not even sure of when the 2021 would roll out and from his talks with HD he was not expecting to see anything before Feb. He also said that new bike allotments would be based on sales with many dealers getting very few new bikes, due to this dealers are eager to move what is on the floor because each sale helps them with the 2021 allotment. That and the fact that sales have been slow, many dealers were closed for a period of time due to Covid etc... now is a good time to make a deal if anyone is look to move to a new bike
