Fixing numb hands?

My right hand used to get numb a lot with longer trips and short handlebars. I have found two things help...one...bars that put your hands inline with your shoulders, and two just shaking out your hand once in a while. If you have cruise control that helps quite a bit too. Overall you just don't need the death grip you might think to keep full control.

I have carpal tunnel in my right hand. Pinkie finger starts first. If I can I get on cruise control and alternate hands flexing a little and setting on my thigh to relax it, if not then I deal. Hand still functions, just feels funky.

Usually, your handlebars are a big part of the problem, possibly in combination with your seat. Handlebars that keep your hands lower than your heart and allow you to ride with your spine and shoulders in alignment should help tremendously. Also, don't ride in the same position for extended lengths of time.
