Was wondering if it’s possible to simplify a twin cam with carb and simple single fire ignition? To make it an easy fix machine.Too much to do?Or am I thinking too hard?
Not to be a smart *** but it's probably easier and cheaper to learn how a fuel injection system works than it would be to retrofit a carb and ignition on a twin cam. Just read the service manual. It's all in there.
Few years back my ECM fried and I was, well, pissed. HD replaced it under warranty. But while being mad I had considered making the bike a 4 wire system.
I'll see if I can find the article, but someone took a 2010 Cross Bones and had an S&S intake milled down to fit and added a carb. So yes, it can be done. And as I recall, it was done for the same price as the fried ECM.
Off the find the link. Brb.
Not exactly what I was looking for but let's start with this

This may actually be a video of the bike i remember.

A tried to accept new EFI technology. The 3rd time my 07 Dyna messed up I said SCREW THIS. Being the cheap bastard that I am, I went the "economical" route. Ebay - EVO intake manifold and CV-40 $125. Thunder Heart - Stand Alone Ignition System - $300. Took some time to get the jetting and ignition advance right but it was well worth it. I put in SE 255 cams when I converted to the carb. At 100,000 I treated my Beast to 105" 10.5:1 top end job and a solid motor sprocket. After the top end brake in, I got on it . . . ripped cogs off the drive belt. After 9 years I replaced the CV-40 with a Mikuni HSR 42 and the throttle response is instant.
For a proper zombie apocalypse, EMP-proof Mad Max machine, you're going to need to install a magneto.
No half measures.

Oh do I pine for the good old days.
I'll give up performance and fuel economy for reliability any day!
