Loved my previous CIIs on my Streetglide and ordered a set of CIIIs 2 months ago... Still waiting on a rear. Generally a Michelin guy for all my bikes and cars. Surprising the issues with CIIIs.
Beware of the dreaded vibration issue. Mine started from mile 1 and it's not going away after 1500 miles. I checked the balance on front and rear tires 3 times before I mounted them, run-out of the wheels and rotors, new wheel bearings, and alignment. It's the weird hand numbing vibration in the bars at 40 till 55 mph only when the bike is tracking straight. Michelin is giving me grief over the fact that I bought them from MotoMummy and mounted them myself and want the local dealer at my cost to check everything I already did. I called my service manager and he said it would cost about $150 for the labor to check the same things I already did plus dismount the tire and inspect. I'm not an idiot when it comes to tires and never had a problem with any I have ever mounted with a NoMar machine so I will just take it for the team and switch it out and go back to Dunlop American Elites and send these back at no charge to Michelin. If they would have told me it's just an issue with the tread pattern I could live with it for 2 seasons and just be done with them. I know I'm not alone with this issue but Michelin said yesterday flat out they have not had any calls about this issue. I am in no way mad it is what I expected and will change the situation just disappointed. Thanks Alvin at Michelin your the best!!!
Surprised to hear this about the Commander IIIs as I am very pleased with the Commander IIs on my Superglide. Was considering these for the next set but I think Ill stick with IIs. Im running Contis on my Road King and they seem to be a good tire. Dealer had a special on them so I thought Id try them out for half the cost of the white walls I normally run. Gonna go back to the white walls when its time because I like how they look better on my Classic.
I'm an American Elite fan. Never liked Commander II's in the rain. Thought I'd give the III's a try. Put a rear one on & didn't think anything special about it. Got a dang nail in it after 2000 miles. Went back with the AE when I replaced it. Dunlops are designed, tested & produced in the USA. Commander II & III are produced in Thailand.
Just put on a set of Avon Cobra Chromes (replaced the straight Cobras) a couple thousand miles ago. Put about a 1000 miles on them last week in Western North Carolina. Twisty mountain roads, got caught in the rain a couple times. No issues at all.
