Default Harley-Davidson 131 Crate Engine Performance Review

A rather well-done review by Cycle World, comparing the 114 to the 131.

"To be able to ride into a
Harley-Davidson dealership and ride out the same day with a 50-percent increase in horsepower is the goal with the new Screamin' Eagle 131 crate engine. Yes, if your dealer is up to it, you can turn your stock touring bike into a hot-rod bagger with a day in the shop. But there’s much more to this new engine than just increased peak torque and horsepower. How and where does that new power hit, and what about heat and fuel management? We picked up a stock Street Glide Special, rode it as-is for a couple of weeks, then swapped out the 114 engine for the 131 to find out"

I don't know why I clicked on that. I really don't need to spend the coin on that upgrade. Lol

I don't know about you guys buy my dealer getting the bike in and out in a day for a 131 install is a pipe dream. More like no call after a week...no call after week 2 and when I call on week 3 they'd say "It's been done for a week and a half, why haven't you picked it up yet". That said, I love the idea of the 131 but have never cared about the warranty. I'd go aftermarket for better performance at a cheaper price.

Here's my thoughts on this motor. After spending plenty on the 114 then havin to spend another $6 grand plus for the new 131, for a bike that mostly can only perform in a straight line. For alot less you can have a fast bike with suspension and brakes, built to handle higher and faster speeds. Like this, https://cnj.craigslist.org/mcy/d/sou...183145919.html

I must admit, I do not understand how it can have such poor figures?

Was it dyno tuned or dyno tested with a HD tuner and canned map?

My 110 Twin Cam is 127 pounds of torque, V a 131 with 130 pounds of torque. What gives?

Also, why not have it as a $2k factory option so that people do not need to spend another $6k on a brand new bike, wasting a new 114 engine and many hours labour.

Or just make it the standard engine and sell more bikes.....

I love this option.
Best would be factory build option instead of local dealer.
(Maybe some smog and noise issues if factory built.)

This should be standard on all new bikes, quit pussyfooting around.
