I wouldnt go with gut feeling or the book, I would take the bike to the stealer and ask them directly..but do it in a way that you dont understand the meaning of the manual..before you tell them you have a problem; otherwise, if they know you have it they will want to take your $600
$600 seems high dont it? Looking thru aftermarket books the average priced belt is around $175 , that leaves $425 to switch it out . Geez I'm in the wrong business.
nope, seems right on par. A $200 belt and about 5 hours labor.
now If you htink it is so high and in the wrong business switch, undercut everyone and that means you should have business flocking to you!!!! Whenyou cannot make it let me know what happened.
I would run it the way it is.
After you check it the first few times and see it's not getting any worse, it will put your mind at ease.
I'm sure HD would definitely recommend changing it, if there was even the slightest possibility of belt failure, from a small hole, anywhere other than the edge.
Tom
I would dig the rock out of it and keep an eye in it. I have seen a lot worse still on the road.

So I got to have a new tire installed on the rear today. As the wrench is removing the rear wheel, he calls me over to look at something in my belt.
I picked up a rock that worked its way all the way through the belt. I made some calls, and it looks like I'm facing about $600.00 to change it out. That seems high, but that's what I was quoted by one dealer and one indy. http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...rrent=belt.jpg
As I ride home, I tell myself that the bad news is I'll probably be out $600.00. The good news is that I found it before I hit the road later this summer.
I get home and look at the factory service manual. And if I understand their instructions correctly, the belt does NOT need to be replaced because the puncture is NOT on the edge. Does anyone else interpret this another way?
run it like people have said go to the dealer get the emergency belt . if u have to put the emergency belt on it set it a little looser than they tell u too, outherwise it will only go 50 miles .friend got 2500 out of his running it loose i got 65 settin it like HD said to.
