Default Where does your drive belt sit on the rear sprocket? - outside/inside/center?

Hi all. Took a look at my 09 EGC drive belt and sprocket on the rear wheel and noticed that the belt sits real close to the outside edge of the sprocket (away from the rear wheel). It doesn't seem to be bothering the edge of the belt but wonder if this needs an adjustment to recenter the belt. There's not a lot of room to move it and wonder if the belt will just move on its own.
Where do other people's belts sit on the rear sprocket?

Thanks
C

On my 06 softail it was easy to align the rear wheel.

On the bagger its a real bitch because you have to align the whole power train.

Having said that if your belt is tracking in the pulley without rubbing either side, count yourself as one of the lucky few. Mine was quite a bit out of alignment from the factory.

edit, just re-read your post..I'm not sure how the '09's align

Yes alignment will help, but. If you understand the way a belt is constructed, there is a single strand of cord wound around the length of the belt from one side to the other side. All polly V and Timming belts are made this way. That way they don't stretch, but the cord acts like a inner threaded item, that causes them to walk to one side. Some a lot more than others, especially if they are tight. So that is why there are side shields are on all pulleys/sprockets like that.

Honestly , if the contact is LIGHT on either inside or out on the rear pulley it won't hurt anything. Getting it to sit dead center of the pulley is not really worth the effort, since there is no gain.

I'll have the dealer take a look at it just to be sure. Thanks for all the advice.

All 3 of my HD's have tracked to the outside when moving forward. If I roll backwards they would track to the inside.

if you'd ever used a belt driven blower, you'd see some transition while it's turning. as long as the cogs are locking in, and the edges aren't too askew, all is fine. study a belt driven primary sometime. same principle.
