When storing a harley on a cement floor in a garage is it wise to put a piece of carpet under the tires or does it really matter?
We have 6 months of winter here in Northern Maine..
Peace and Prayers
Whether it makes a difference or not, since I have owned bikes, I have always had carpet underneath.
Since this is going to start coming up towards the end of summer.... Google says:
Can tires dry rot on concrete?
It's true that concrete tends to be alkaline, but unless it's powdered, sprinkled over your tires, and constantly exposed to wet-dry cycles, it won't do any harm to your tires. The amount of tread that will disappear due to chemical reactions is trivial compared to the thickness of the tread.
Winter is still months away; this is like 1st day of vacation & someone mentions going back to work
Other bikes I have always taken the battery out & stored it in the house/basement, Garage is not heated
I also used to take the gas tank & side covers off, wax them & store them inside
Do not think I will do that with the Fat Boy, will use a Tender
I ride until the 1st ice/snow storm and salt is used on the roads
I do not take it out until Spring & we have had a few good rainstorms to wash the salt away
I did actually get 9 years & 25,000 miles out of the back tire on my last bike
