Thanks gentlemen for the cheesesteak advice. I love a good cheesesteak with real cheese of course, had always planned to try those 2 famous places and see what all the hoopla is all about. Now I know better. Still a damn nice ride for lunch though...
I love those days, 100+ miles rides to lunch destination. But I prefer not to slab the 100+ miles, Danbury to philly is 95% highway, too many people and not very scenic
We actually took a bunch of side roads on the way. They were pretty boring and kept putting us on US1, really sucked, then finally hit the super slabs. Took them all the way back. We usually do Scenic rides to Great Destinations. This was something we just said let's go.
Pats & Ginos are way over rated. There are 3 or 4 little mom and pop pizza joints in my town that make cheesesteaks that are 10 times better than either of those places.
So 7 of us met and went to lunch today. From Danbury CT to Philly for cheese steaks at Gino's. 330 miles round trip....the cheesesteaks sucked 🤣 but the cannoli's and espresso and greek coffee at the Rim Cafe were fantastic. The owner was great! He made us some awesome Greek coffee in a chem lab glass heated with a tourch....great stuff.
He made our day!
You picked the 2 worst steak places in the city. They are tourist traps. Next Time ask a Philly person where to go and you won't be disappointed
Try John's Roast Pork for Steaks or Pork next time

Plenty of nice back ways down for most of the way
You should have picked up 611 in NJ and then onto 32 in Pa would have been a great part of the ride for you
Gino’s and Pats are way past their prime. John’s Roast pork, Carmans in NJ Used to be good haven’t been there in awhile. Steve’s is better then either of those. Leo’s in Folcroft, PA just outside of the city. As far as cheese they all offer choices. Wiz is just a Philly thing. They are all over priced.
