Big part for me will be making it through that 500 miles without maintaining speed too long, I would love to hit 1000 miles so I can get that first checkup/service done before the snow falls. Hoping the snow stays away today so I can go try out some of those break in procedures..

I have to chuckle sometimes. The V-Rod Owner's Manual cautions not to run the engine above 7,000 RPM for the first 500 miles.

lots of good videos on youtube on the subject....if you spend enough time, like I did, you start to get some common themes

I recently had the big bore kit put on my SG and the trip on the dyna sufficed for the break in

I'll never dick around with breaking a bike in again....frikken nonsense if you ask me....break it in on the dyna, please....really don't care if it costs me

When I visited the Harley-Davidson factory, I watched them roll every bike off the line, straight onto a dynamometer, and run each bike up to 80 mph from a cold start. So your new Harley already has some “miles” on it before you get it.

I asked about this at the factory and was told, “if they’re going to blow, we want them to blow here.”

I've worked in auto manufacturing... each car runs on the dyno and then around the test track.
But, my new bike only had 1 mile on it when it was gassed up for my test ride. So I wouldn't say the factory does anything to resemble a break-in...

This is exactly how I "broke in" all of my race engines. My last race bike had a 25 miles when I gridded for the first race. It was broken in the those 25 miles, oil was changed and it was ready for the track.

My Aprilia had 55K (20K race/track) miles when I sold the engine to another racer. He raced it for another 10K before rebuilding it completely.
