Yeah I am not getting the market either. That being said they will sell some. On the coasts where the population density is high, salaries are paying top dollar, parking is almost non-existent and most don't own cars maybe there is a market.
Like everything Harley tries to do outside it's core competency it will go belly up. If they would nix the go-no-where R&D crap they might be able to focus on core and reduce the costs on some of their current lineup. If Harley wanted to offer something along those lines they would have been way ahead of the game partnering up with someone established in those markets and paid them to produce a Harley styled offering.

you are exactly right. If I had to have a bicycle Ill go to a yard sale and pick one up for $25.
On average I ride at least 4000 miles a year on my current Madone. For that kind of milage, a thousand, or two is not going to cut it. You get what you pay for. If your riding, at times, a 100 miles a pop you want top quality. I no longer race but 7 for a bike is entry for hard core rec rider.
