Deer strike

A week ago I hit a deer with my 2019 Ultra Limited or rather he ran into me. I was doing about 60 mph on a 2 lane highway mid day with a wooded area on both sides. The spike buck came out of the woods on a dead run right in front of me. It was bang bang no time to react. He hit the left side of the bike and according to the truck behind me did a double backflip over the bike and landed in the ditch. It was a solid strike but I kept the bike up. I pulled over to check damage ( thanks to the guys in the truck behind me for stopping to check on me) the only damage was a bent mirror and some fur on the seat. The only thing I can figure is he tried to jump over me and got flipped. Was I just lucky or did I do the right thing by powering through him. Well I guess I know I was lucky... I know you shouldn’t be riding during the rut season but hey it’s what we do. Stay safe out there.

Wow ... Excellent outcome ... A few years ago I was with a buddy a he had one jump out in front of him ... I swore he hit it but he said close but no ... When we stopped for gas there was hair stuck in the logo on the front fender of his scooter ... Lucky day !

Dang glad it was just a mirror and you stayed wheels down. Sounds right as they usually try to jump. I’ve been hit in a car before and the impact is crazy hard. I can only imagine on a bike.
Weird how deer will beeline on the intended path no matter what but squirrels and rabbits will change direction a lot

Good outcome for you! I've always wondered if it would be better to power through a deer that to brake, try to swerve, or do something else.

You was very lucky. I'm in Mi, when a deer is on a dead run, they just won't stop. Im happy for you, little damage and you didn't get hurt. Nice that you kept control of your Harley. One good thing, you know you have a strong heart now..

Glad you're ok. I had one jump into me in a corner going about 25 mph. It jumped in front of me and hit me in the helmet on 9/10/2020. Still waiting to get it back front the dealer.
