I go craftsman and stanley so far so good. Like both and are reasonably priced. I have no problem buying used tools if in good shape. Lately scored Craftsman ratcheting wrenches set for 25$ you cant go wrong with deal like that

Flea markets are also a good source for used tools. I've bought some good stuff for cheap.

Ha ha. I’ve seen it a lot lately, and finally asked someone about it. Apparently 10mm is very common in metric hardware vehicles, and as such with frequent use its the most commonly lost.

The joke really seems to be gaining momentum.

I see a lot of Snap-On listed on Facebook Marketplace ... Most of mine are Snap-On from my wrenching days

We’re a family-owned company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We’re dedicated to making the best hand tools you’ll ever own, and we start by designing the products that we personally believe in and want to own ourselves.
At this time, about 75% of our current product lineup is made in Taiwan, 20% in the United States, 3% in China, and about 2% across several other countries.
I don't wrench for a living, but I bought (and now moved into) a second home, and I equipped my garage with Tekton, including 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 torque wrenches, hex bits, etc. Nothing like have a COMPLETE set of bits and sockets, very difficult to do when you buy used on CL or flea markets. I know this because I've inherited multiple "sets" of SK, Craftsman, Snap-on, Proto, etc. over the years from my relatives who've passed on. You never seem to have the tool you need, when you need it, unless you buy a complete set and NEVER EVER LEND ANYTHING TO ANYBODY.

I have seen many hex drivers undersized that round out screws.
True that. I have Tekton, bits, but I bought a set of Klein T-handle hex and torx drivers. It's OK, I still have one kidney left.

True, but see my comment above, you'll end up like me, spending 20 minutes going through 7 drawers of tools looking for that 13/16" offset combination wrench which you're not really sure you actually have or not.

Too bad you don't live closer, I'm "consolidating" and I'd be happy to GIVE you some tools. "Some" is the operative word. And BTW, DON'T buy any Harbor Freight tools unless you'll be working on your kid's wagon or maybe your lawnmower.

My dad would give me a different set of hand tools each Christmas and birthdays starting when I was a teenager over 50 years ago, always Craftsman tools. He was a believer in Sears tools. I still have everyone he gave me and they have served me well over a lifetime. I have a ratchet and some screwdrivers that were his fathers.
I’ve been doing the same for my nephew for the past several birthday and Christmas’s. Loews now carries Craftsman, I mix it up with other brands.

I have added to my collection over the years, mostly Craftsman but also other brands. I like Kobalt but don’t have many of those, and several harbor freight tools in my boxes.

OP, as mentioned look for estate sales, Craigslist deals, etc for old quality tools. Fill in what you still need with tools that fit your purpose.

Not so for me. I just bought a Ural. All metric. I've been buying individual tools online every time I need something. Various outlets and some off brand. Some used.

Delivery has been pretty good this fall and holiday time on the small stuff.

I did have a pkg of new parts visit my missing odd socks in the Twilight Zone for 3-weeks.

It eventually showed up. Not so much my missing socks.

All of my sockets are Craftsman. I have a small set of them that I’ve had since the early ‘90’s when they were Made in the US.

I also have some Stanley and Kobalt pieces. I have a couple of sets of Torx and Hex bits that are Husky, and my torque wrenches are also Husky.

I have a couple of Blue Hawk box wrench sets that are ok.
